چکیده

In this paper we present a compositional semantics for the channel-based coordination language Reo that enables the analysis of quality of service (QoS) properties of service compositions. For this purpose, we annotate Reo channels with stochastic delay rates and explicitly model data-arrival rates at the boundary of a connector, to capture its interaction with the services that comprise its environment. We propose Stochastic Reo Automata as an extension of Reo automata, in order to compositionally derive a QoS-aware semantics for Reo. We further present a translation of Stochastic Reo Automata to Continuous-Time Markov Chains (CTMCs). This translation enables us to use third-party CTMC verification tools to do an end-to-end performance analysis of service compositions. As a case study of industrial strength, we consider the ASK system. Particularly, we present an analysis of the CTMC derived from the Stochastic Reo model of the ASK system. In addition, we discuss to what extent Interactive Markov Chains (IMCs) can serve as an alternative semantic model for Stochastic Reo. We show that the compositionality of IMCs cannot specify the behavior of Stochastic Reo.

A Compositional Semantics for Stochastic Reo Connectors

Component Connectors with QoS Guarantees

Connectors have emerged as a powerful concept for composition and coordination of concurrent activities encapsulated as components and services. Compositional coordination models and languages serve as a means to formally specify and implement component and service connectors. They support largescale distributed applications by allowing construction of complex component connectors out of simple...

Preface: Special section on foundations of coordination languages and software architectures (selected papers from FOCLASA'10)

This section contains extended versions of selected papers from the 9 International Workshop on the Foundations of Coordination Languages and Software Architectures (FOCLASA’10). Computer systems combining concurrent, distributed, mobile and heterogenous components are omnipresent and managing the complexity of their interaction raises challenging problems for system designers and integrators. ...

A Semantic Model for Service Composition with Coordination Time Delays

The correct behavior of a service composition depends on the appropriate coordination of its services. According to the idea of channelbased coordination, services exchange messages though channels without any knowledge about each other. The Reo coordination language aims at building connectors out of basic channels to implement arbitrarily complex interaction protocols. The activity within a R...

A Hybrid Model of Connectors in Cyber-Physical Systems

Compositional coordination models and languages play an important role in cyber-physical systems (CPSs). In this paper, we introduce a formal model for describing hybrid behaviors of connectors in CPSs. We extend the constraint automata model, which is used as the semantic model for the exogenous channelbased coordination language Reo, to capture the dynamic behavior of connectors in CPSs where...
